Pets: Two crazy cats, "The Artful Dodger" and "Party Girl," who live on my farm alongside my daughter Susan's cats, Amelia Pond, Anteitum, Ajax, and Gemma, and her horses Wishie, Peanut, Nicki, Mister, Atonte, Zippette, and Wende. For almost 14 years, my daily companion was a Siberian husky named Nylak, who was the model for Granite in Child of the Wolves and for Black Star in Black Star, Bright Dawn by Scott O’Dell. The Pond: Though I no longer live by a lake, I do have a large pond that is filled with all kinds of fish, including an albino catfish.
Lives: On a horse farm in North Carolina near Raleigh, North Caroina. For nearly 40 years prior, lived beside a lake in Westchester County, NY, with her first husband, Scott O'Dell, and then her second, Nat Gilbert, 50 miles north of New York City. Favorite color: Purple. Favorite animals: dolphins, wolves, cats, and dogs. Favorite books: After books by Scott O’Dell, Jane Eyre and Great Expectations. Favorite books as a child: Any of the Oz books and fairy tales. Favorite pastimes: Reading, gardening, traveling, snorkeling, scuba diving, white-water rafting.
